Weapons in the Workplace Policy
(CA)

Summary

This template is a weapons in the workplace policy that California employers can use to inform employees that firearms, explosives, and other weapons are prohibited in the workplace. This template includes practical guidance, drafting notes, and an optional clause. This template is intended for private employers. Employers may include this policy in an employee handbook or distribute it as a standalone policy. It is based on California and federal law. For a non-jurisdictional employee handbook, see Employee Handbook. For an employee handbook supplement for California employers containing customized workplace policies based on California state and local laws, see Employee Handbook Supplement (CA). This weapons policy lowers employees' privacy expectations to allow the employer to lawfully search an employee and/or his or her personal property in the event the employer suspects the employee has a weapon.
