Voting Leave Policy
(with Acknowledgment)

Summary

This non-jurisdictional template is a Voting Leave Policy (with Acknowledgment) that governs employees' entitlement to take leave from work to vote. Employers may include this policy in an employee handbook or distribute it as a standalone policy. It is the template for our state voting leave policies and has not been tailored for any jurisdiction. Use this template alone or customize it for one or more jurisdictions. This voting leave policy is intended for private employers. It contains drafting notes. No federal law requires employers to provide voting leave. Depending upon the state(s) in which an employer operates, state or local laws may require it to offer more voting leave to employees than this Voting Leave Policy (with Acknowledgment) provides for. Therefore, you should check state and local laws for any voting leave requirements. For more information on voting leave, see the Other Leaves column of Attendance, Leaves, and Disabilities State Practice Notes Chart.
