Types of Projects and Key Project Parties

Summary

This practice note discusses the key participants in project financing transactions. Projects in energy, transportation, and other areas of infrastructure often have tremendous capital needs and a risk profile that make them suitable for project financing techniques. As a result, project financing is often used for the development and construction of power plants (both fossil fuel and renewable); production facilities (e.g., ethanol and chemical plants); oil and gas facilities (e.g., pipelines, storage facilities, and refineries); mining operations; transportation facilities (toll roads and bridges, passenger rail facilities, airports, and ports) waste disposal, water, and telecommunications facilities; and sports stadia, convention centers, concert halls, and other social infrastructure.
