Statutory Landlord's Lien State Law Survey (Short Form)
Summary
This statutory landlord's lien state law survey indicates whether a statutory landlord's lien against a tenant's personal property for rent exists in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Landlord's liens granted for purposes other than recovering unpaid rent (e.g., liens for advances, tools, or equipment) or that encumber only tenant's abandoned property or certain other specific items (e.g., crops, mobile homes, recreational vehicles, etc.) are beyond the scope of this survey; any references herein to such liens are provided for convenience only. In addition, statutory landlord's lien provisions relating to tenants who have been adjudged bankrupt are not addressed in this survey. This survey provides links to cited statutes governing landlord's liens and the applicable provisions with respect to the priority of same. For additional guidance and information regarding landlord's lien laws, see Statutory Landlord's Lien State Law Survey (Long Form).
