Summary

This practice note provides an introduction to solar energy financing. Solar energy may be a key part of U.S. renewable energy policy, but according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency, in 2022 solar accounted for roughly 3.4% of U.S. energy generation, with hydropower and biomass accounting for 7.5%, and wind 10.2%. See U.S. Energy Information Administration Frequently Asked Questions (available at https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=427&t=3). This leaves plenty of room for the use of solar energy to rise over time.
