Severance Package Review Checklist

Summary

This checklist sets out factors for counsel to consider when advising a client on the reasonableness of a severance package (also referred to as a termination package) received from their employer following the termination of their employment. When an employer terminates an employee's employment without cause, the employer must provide the terminated employee with a severance package that is consistent with the employee's minimum statutory entitlements. Terminated employees may also be entitled to common law reasonable notice.
