Requests for Production of Documents
(RFPs) (IL)
Summary
This template is a set of requests for production of documents (RFPs) you may use in an Illinois circuit court civil case under Illinois Supreme Court Rule (Supreme Court Rule) 214. The template contains practical guidance, drafting notes, and alternate clauses. Document requests, also called RFPs, are written requests served between parties in civil litigation. RFPs seek the production of relevant documents and electronically stored information (ESI). Ill. Sup. Ct. R. 214. These requests provide broad access to other parties' information but can quickly become expensive and yield an overwhelming volume of documents. Carefully drafting the requests to ask only for the information needed to advance your case is critical to stave off objections and ensure you receive a manageable number of relevant documents.
