Real Property Transfer Taxes (NJ)


Summary

New Jersey imposes a tax on the transfer of residential real property. When recording a deed, a tax known as a realty transfer fee will be due. In addition, in certain circumstances (as detailed further below) a mansion tax, non-resident tax, bulk sales tax, and a controlling interest tax may also be due. This practice note provides a summary of the types of transfer taxes listed above and the circumstances under which they are due.
