Pregnancy and Parental Leave Policy
(with Acknowledgment) (KY)
Summary
This template is a pregnancy and parental leave policy that has been tailored for employers subject to Kentucky law. It includes practical guidance, drafting notes, and an optional clause. The Pregnant Workers Act amends the Kentucky Civil Rights Act (KCRA) to require employers with 15 or more employees to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnancy, childbirth, and related conditions. While the act does not specifically mandate pregnancy leave, it states that an example of a reasonable accommodation includes time off to recover from childbirth. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 344.030(6)(b). See Kentucky Civil Rights Act (KCRA). This template is intended for private employers and may be included in an employee handbook or distributed as a standalone policy. For a non-jurisdictional employee handbook, see Employee Handbook. Its language has been customized to comply with Kentucky and federal law. As a result, the text of this template differs from the non-jurisdictional Pregnancy and Parental Leave Policy (with Acknowledgment). For information on pregnancy and parental leave rights in Kentucky, see Leave Law (KY).
