This checklist addresses personal jurisdiction in commercial litigation cases. This checklist provides a general overview of personal jurisdiction, including the requirements for obtaining general and specific personal jurisdiction over individuals and business entities, and defending a lack of personal jurisdiction. Note that this checklist is not based upon the laws of any specific jurisdiction and therefore does not cover any specific state or federal law requirements or distinctions. Counsel should therefore review state and/or federal law concerning requirements for establishing personal jurisdiction in the forum applicable to the client's case.
