Nameplate Capacity (Banking & Finance Glossary)

Summary

The amount of power, typically expressed in megawatts, that a power production facility can produce under ideal conditions. This is the maximum output that the facility can produce under theoretical full-load conditions without putting stress on the facility’s components that might degrade their quality or functionality. Nameplate capacity is assessed after construction of the facility and is the capacity of the facility registered with energy-planning agencies. Nameplate capacity may differ from designed capacity because of mechanical or environmental features of the installed power plant.
