Mobile Application Privacy Policy
(General)

Summary

This template is a Mobile Application Privacy Policy to be used by mobile application developers and operators in disclosing to consumers the collection, storing, and sharing of their personally identifiable information through their use of a mobile app. Mobile apps have proliferated as the use of mobile devices have become increasingly prevalent. This form includes practical guidance, drafting notes, alternate clauses, and optional clauses. Mobile apps may pose numerous privacy concerns due to the vast amounts of Personal Information that they are capable of collecting, using, and sharing. For more information on complying with privacy laws, see Privacy Considerations for Mobile Apps and Privacy Policies: Drafting a Policy—Legal & Regulatory Considerations. The policy is intended to help users understand: • The types of information that the mobile app collects, both from the user and the mobile device • How this information is used by the operator of the mobile app and its advertising partners • Whether the information is shared with third parties, and if so, with whom Privacy policies for mobile apps can vary depending on unique factors (e.g., the nature of the data collected, industry-specific regulatory obligations, and protections for certain types of consumers), and should be tailored to account for the mobile app's specific functions and intended audience. This policy does not address privacy issues that may arise from the transfer of data to or from jurisdictions outside of the United States, or any related laws or regulations. You should also ensure that this form accompanies a short-form privacy disclosure that summarizes the mobile app's data collection, storing and sharing practices. For an example of a mobile app privacy disclosure, see Privacy Disclosure for Mobile Applications (Short Form).
