Long-Term Care Insurance: Filing a Claim Checklist

Summary

This checklist outlines the steps to follow when filing claims under long-term care insurance policies. It outlines key issues to consider and processes that must be followed to assess policies accurately, obtain benefits for a policyholder-client, or, if representing an insurer, deny a claim in good faith. While all insurance policies generally describe the claims-filing process, long-term care insurance (LTCI) policies provide a kind of care and have steps in assessment that do not exist in other kinds of policies. This is partly because the policies are available in different forms and afford various types and durations of benefits. Notwithstanding, all LTCI policies, by their nature, provide custodial care.
