Letter to Client
(Concluding Estate Planning Representation) (Basic) (IL)

Summary

This template is a disengagement letter notifying the clients that all estate planning work has been completed and confirming the end of the representation. Formally concluding the attorney-client relationship protects you from any continuing potential obligation to the client, for example, the duty to notify the client of changes in the law. This is for use with Illinois clients. This template includes practical guidance and drafting notes. This letter is designed to be mailed to clients soon after they have executed their estate planning documents. While this letter is addressed to clients who are spouses or domestic partners, it can be modified for an individual client. For an in-depth discussion on estate planning, see Estate Planning Strategies and Devices (IL) and Ethical Issues in Estate Planning (IL).
