Land Owner Transparency Act (LOTA) (BC)

Summary

This practice note discusses the British Columbia Land Owner Transparency Act, S.B.C. 2019, c. 23 (“LOTA”). In particular, it describes the rationale for introducing the LOTA; the provisions of the LOTA including, the filing requirements, the information required in filings, the form of submissions and the consequences of failing to comply; the Land Owner Transparency Registry (“LOTR”), and the lessons to be learned for other Canadian jurisdictions which are expected to introduce similar legislation.
