This template is a heat illness prevention policy for California employers. California law requires employers with outdoor workplaces to establish, implement, and maintain a Heat Illness Prevention Plan (HIPP) setting forth the employer's procedures regarding access to water and shade, high heat procedures, emergency response procedures, and heat acclimatization. This template includes practical guidance, drafting notes, and alternate clauses. This template is based on the sample heat illness prevention procedures issued by California's Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and is based on California law. It is intended for private employers. Employers must make the plan available at the worksite to employees and to representatives of the DIR upon request.
