Formal Offers to Settle (AB)

Summary

This practice note discusses offers to settle under r. 4.24 of the Alberta Rules of Court, which encourage early settlements of disputes by providing for costs sanctions against a party who refuses to accept a reasonable offer to settle. This practice note sets out the legal requirements for the form of the offer, its expiry date and withdrawal, and acceptance of the offer.
