Summary

This practice note is a 50-state survey chart which covers state laws and regulations pertaining to extended warranties, service contracts, vehicle protection product warranties, and portable electronics insurance. Highlighted issues include (1) registration and licensing requirements for parties providing warranties and service contracts covered by the state statutes; (2) financial and insurance requirements that must be satisfied to provide such warranties and services; (3) special rules and requirements that must be adhered to by warrantors, providers, and other parties; and (4) enforcement of and penalties imposed on parties that violate the warranty and service contract laws.
