Eviction, Unlawful Detainer, and Tenant Protections State Law Survey


Summary

This survey addresses issues related to tenant evictions, including forcible entry and unlawful detainer; the treatment of personal property remaining on premises after an eviction; and tenant protection laws. Highlighted issues include eviction / unlawful detainer notice and/or written demand requirements, in cases of nonpayment of rent and/or noncompliance with the rental agreement; time/notice requirements and landlord liability related to personal property left by the tenant after eviction; and tenant protection laws pertaining to foreclosures. This survey covers all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
