Definitions Clause
(Number and Gender) (CA)
Summary
This template is a will provision that may be used to provide that any use of the masculine, feminine, or neuter gender, and the singular or plural, is deemed to include the others whenever the context so indicates. This template is used in California. It includes practical guidance and drafting notes. Use of this provision may help reduce the possibility of misinterpretation of any will provision that uses terms such as "he," "she," "they," "it," "his," "her," "their," or similar terms denoting number or gender. It may be helpful if the will drafter has inadvertently failed to use the appropriate pronoun or adjective in any will provision.
