This practice note outlines the purpose of a remediation agreement (also known as a deferred prosecution agreement), which is defined in the Criminal Code as an agreement between an organization accused of having committed an offence and a prosecutor, to stay any proceedings related to that offence if the organization complies with the terms of the agreement. One of the purposes of a remediation agreement is to encourage voluntary disclosure of the wrongdoing.
