Art License Agreement
(One-Time / No Fee Use)
Summary
This template is an art license agreement for use by an artist to authorize a licensee to reproduce, on a one-time, no fee basis, copyrighted art created by the artist. This template includes practical guidance, drafting notes, and an optional clause. In this template, the artist grants permission for use of certain artwork for a particular purpose. No compensation is involved and thus all that is needed is something that clearly indicates the particular use that is being authorized along with applicable additional conditions. While more often the licensee will take the initiative and offer a draft license to the artist, the contents of a license proposal are likely to be heavily weighted in favor of the licensee. Therefore, whenever possible, counsel for the artist should try to take the lead in presenting a document which contains provisions that reflect the interests and rights of the artist. See Intellectual Property Licensing Resource Kit. For a related template, see Art Commission Agreement (Limited Edition Visual Art Prints).
