Affidavit of Translation

Summary

This template affidavit of translation may be used in New Jersey Superior Court to certify the accuracy of a translation of evidence. It includes practical guidance, drafting notes, and alternate and optional clauses. Documents or written testimony that are not in English must be translated before being submitted to a court in the New Jersey. See, e.g., N.J. Stat. § 2A:4-30.196; N.J. Stat. § 26:8-40.10. In some instances, these translations must be certified in order to be admissible. See, e.g., N.J. Stat. § 26:8-40.10; N.J. Ct. R. 5:10-14(c). To accomplish this, you must accompany the translation with an affidavit or declaration of translation in which the translator certifies that he or she is competent to translate the document, and that the translation is true and correct. See, e.g., N.J. Ct. R. 5:10-14(c); N.J. Stat. § 26:8-40.10 In lieu of an oath, the translator may submit a certification that the statements made in the document are true, and that he or she will be subject to punishment if falsified. N.J.
