Guns-at-Work State Law Survey

Summary

There is no federal law that regulates weapons at private workplaces. However, many states have enacted laws that limit an employer's ability to restrict the storage of firearms in a personal vehicle in the employer's parking lot. This survey covers every state's guns-at-work laws, including the scope of any laws that restrict an employer from limiting the storage of firearms in a personal vehicle in the employer's parking lot. This survey also covers posting and notice requirements. This survey applies to private employers. Note that unless there is a law specifically restricting private employers from prohibiting firearms on the employer's property, employers are generally free to do so as a condition of employment.
