Employment Discrimination Laws Comparison Chart (CO and Federal)

Summary

Federal employment discrimination laws prohibit private employers from discriminating on the basis of protected categories such as race, sex, religion, national origin, and more. Many states have their own anti-discrimination laws, some of which mirror federal law while others expand on their protections. This chart is a comparative analysis of key provisions in federal discrimination laws and their analogues in Colorado state law. This chart includes only statutes with the primary purpose of prohibiting discrimination. It does not include laws like the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and many others which have the primary goal of creating benefits or protections for workers other than safety from discrimination. This chart also includes laws that prohibit retaliation against workers who take advantage of the law's benefits or protections. It applies only to private employers.
