Fee Applications

Summary

This practice note discusses fee applications and court approval of interim and final fee applications. Lawyers and other professionals who are compensated from the assets of a bankruptcy estate are required to obtain court approval before they can be paid for their services. Specifically, retained professionals in bankruptcy who are paid directly from the bankruptcy estate (as opposed to professionals who are paid directly by the debtor itself or by a creditor client) are required to prepare and file with the court fee applications that include detailed descriptions of time expended, services provided, expenses incurred, and amounts requested.
